There are a few aircraft in our industry that are still operating today, but, also were involved in opening the North over many years. The #1 Aircraft used without any doubt was and still is the deHavilland DHC2 Beaver. Designed originally for the military the primary purpose and requirements was to bring supplies into ground force troops using either very short and sometime no runways. The second requirement was it had to be able to load on board 45 gallon (55 gallon US) barrels by rolling through the side doors. A wide door on either side made it very versatile. The STOL (Short Take-Off And Landing) wing design being wide and thick created amazing lift out of tight spots, even in a full gross configuration. This aircraft became the ideal Float Plane and if you travel Canada in probably every province you will see the Beaver Aircraft.
