FIRST OTTER ON FLOATS

 

With the weather starting to warm and the ice breaking up our maintenance crews are busy getting all the aircraft ready for a very busy season. This is the first Otter ready on floats. It was only a few weeks ago when we were finishing up the Poplar River Camp renovations and we landed on the river using the skis. Amazing what only a few warm days with bright sunshine can do to change our motivation and prepare for spring.

ICE IS DISAPPEARING

 

With warm temperatures this last week the ice is quickly disappearing and work to open up the float base is nearly completed.

BEAVER

There are a few aircraft in our industry that are still operating today, but, also were involved in opening the North over many years. The #1 Aircraft used without any doubt was and still is the deHavilland DHC2 Beaver. Designed originally for the military the primary purpose and requirements was to bring supplies into ground force troops using either very short and sometime no runways. The second requirement was it had to be able to load on board 45 gallon (55 gallon US) barrels by rolling through the side doors. A wide door on either side made it very versatile. The STOL (Short Take-Off And Landing) wing design being wide and thick created amazing lift out of tight spots, even in a full gross configuration. This aircraft became the ideal Float Plane and if you travel Canada in probably every province you will see the Beaver Aircraft.

Adventure Air operates a high quality aircraft maintenance organization. We maintain both commercial and private owned aircraft. Our shop is rated for piston, turbo prop, single engine, and twin engine aircraft for both land and seaplane. In addition to routine maintenance, we are also equipped to handle off airport emergency assistance including aircraft salvage. We operate out of a large 80x100 heated hanger at the Lac du Bonnet Airport, assessable by wheel and seaplane. Our licenced mechanics hold ratings for sheet metal, structural modifications, welding and aircraft painting.
